Family Law Attorney- Part Time/ Contract
The Detroit Justice Center (DJC), The Detroit Justice Center (DJC), renowned for its innovative approach to community law practice, is currently seeking a contract position as a Contract Attorney for an initial one-year term.
Position Overview:
As a Contract Attorney, you’ll support clients addressing barriers related to family and traffic issues, along with housing and criminal law, especially for those impacted by incarceration. You’ll work with Legal Services & Advocacy Practice (LSAP) to support access to housing, employment, and financial stability for Detroit’s communities.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic guidance in criminal, housing, family, and traffic law, particularly on suspended driver’s licenses, criminal record expungement, child support, and custody.
- Conduct client interviews, create and communicate case strategies, and prepare necessary documents.
- Services include drafting and reviewing legal documents, including petitions, pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements; appearing on behalf of clients at status conferences, hearings, and trials; preparing witnesses; and assisting in propounding and/or responding to discovery.
- Communicate effectively with clients, providing guidance and advice on family law issues and answering their questions.
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, licensed to practice in Michigan.
- Minimum of 2 years of litigation experience, especially in family, traffic, and/or housing law.
- Independent work style, excellent communication, and commitment to community law.

Contract Terms:
This is a part-time contract position offered at $45.00 per hour. This role does not include benefits.
